  the article says in part the following.. 'the scientific consensus that humans are altering the climate has passed 99.9%, according to research that strengthens the case for global action at the cop26 summit in glasgow.. the degree of scientific certainty about the impact of greenhouse gases is now similar to the level of agreement on evolution and plate tectonics, the authors say, based on a survey of nearly 90,000 climate-related studies.

  this means there is practically no doubt among experts that burning fossil fuels, such as oil, gas, coal, peat and trees, is heating the planet and causing more extreme weather.. a previous survey in 2013 showed 97% of studies published between 1991 and 2012 supported the idea that human activities are altering earth’s climate.. this has been updated and expanded by the study by cornell university that shows the tiny minority of sceptical voices has diminished to almost nothing as evidence mounts of the link between fossil-fuel burning and climate disruption.. the latest survey of peer-reviewed literature published from 2012 to november 2020 was conducted in two stages.

  The article is misleading, 99.9% of scientists agree that climate change is a thing. Not nearly all of them agree humans are causing it and most of them don’t agree that this is a huge ends-of-the-world thing.

  Given that modern computers can search through the entire compendium of research papers, just selecting 3000 of them seems a bit of a sampling bias and it is likely they came to their results through P-hacking.
  

  The IPCC is a body that (actually) reads 14,000 papers annually to come to their conclusions (this study only picks some keywords to do their “analysis”).

  If you read the full IPCC report (and not just the media interpretation) they conclude that global warming can be stabilized, they peg it at ~2C over pre-industrial levels with moderate interventions and they also conclude the current 1C can not be reduced and only be stopped if we stopped emitting completely today, if we took severe action, we’re still looking at 1.5C. If we continued growing in emitting at current rates (which is unlikely) then the worst case scenario is 4C. They also have some comments on the socio-economic impacts of each of the solutions and basically we will have to learn to live with 2C if we want to be realistic.

  @titch: I agree it’s juvenile, people did it during Trump as well, from both sides, some would taunt the left, others would add some kind of threat to the then sitting President. You can still buy stamps that were made for this activity that mention Trump.

  I do think, that unless this renders the currency unusable, it is basically a First Amendment issue.

  The reason people are doing this though is because they feel they have no voice, so they are writing it on money, chanting it at football games, because the media doesn’t cover it and social media actively suppresses it.

  Yesterday Mexico was invaded by thousands of immigrants and beat up the national guard, stole their gear and vowed to fight at the US border, they are heading over to Del Rio. Meanwhile thousands are already here and have also started a campaign of assaulting and evading border officers. Why is that not a story? Why is Biden and Kamala (who is supposed to be in charge of the border crisis) hiding? People are getting to know, by word of mouth, and Texas will soon see even more death and a de-facto war with the cartels that arm and bring these people.

  @cyberjesus: in defense of your ideological heroes, you made false equivalences, Simon already pointed that out. If someone criticizes you, don’t take it personal, learn instead why they are.

  What you and a lot of other people are dealing with around this is cognitive dissonance, there are people making defenses for this person because he was a hero for their cause caught up in the exact behavior that said person was berating others for engaging in.
  

  It’s the cult leader that got caught with the little boys, or the politician that is found taking money from foreign government, in this case it’s an anti-gun advocate accidentally shooting a person in a fit of anger.

  And it opens up this can of worms that the left, Hollywood and the media in general is trying to hide. They say they dislike violence, that corporations should pay their workers and their fair share or they should strike, they dislike guns and nobody has a reason to need one, they say guns are unsafe. Then they make movies that glorify violence, they don’t pay the necessary skill and disregard worker strikes and complaints, use real guns and don’t even have a basic training on guns. It demonstrates they know nothing about the thing they rail against.

  THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REGULAR (voter) LEFT, I would consider myself a liberal in the regular sense and I’d gladly debate guns and crime on another thread. But the Democrat left, the one Baldwin belongs to however is like the JW version of Christianity, they’ve gone so far they are completely off their rocker they believe they are perfect, know it all and are untouchable, until something points at them that they’re also flawed.

  Just read an interesting article from an attorney who said based on current information we have, Baldwin will probably be at least civilly (negligence) and potentially criminally (manslaughter) liable.

  All the fingers point at him, because he is the co-producer and the one that pulled the trigger. He is responsible for having safety personnel, training of the actors in safe handling of firearms etc

  I do remember that it is possible to use a worldly person as a witness, but the word of a baptized witness would trump whatever a worldly person says. So they can be used to corroborate a thing, but they are below even baptized female children in the ranking.

  @Simon: there are a lot of things that don’t make sense about the story. Directors don’t hand over guns, armorers do. Armorers require 2 people, 1 licensed and 1 assistant that check the gun for whatever is loaded, neither were on set. It seems to have been a live bullet in a real gun, there were multiple guns. Anyone that has ever worked with real guns knows you don’t just pull the trigger without checking, even if you are alone at a range.

  A lot of safety went out of the window to get this movie going. Greed, incompetence and disregards for the “hourly” employees, that kind of paints the entire left wing today.

  The fact the investigation isn’t just returning with the facts means things went awfully wrong to get to that point.

  @Rafe: Baldwin is an apathetic careless jerk, but it is highly correlated to his left-wing ideology. That is what is hitting people’s nerves. One of his tweets a few years ago mocked a police officer saying he wonders how it feels to “wrongfully” shoot someone when a suspect got in a struggle to take the gun off said officer. His “comedy” similarly mocks people and police officer as dumb rednecks when they shoot a criminal.

  I know not all Democrat voters are the same, but Baldwin is a specific type of Hollywood ideologue, he has always been a high profile gun control advocate, demanding that the proles don’t have access to guns, but apparently he hires armed security and apparently doesn’t even know the first thing about gun safety.

  His reaction as reported was likewise telling that he is a hypocrite sociopath, which is typical for the liberal elite. The initial reports said Baldwin got angry for having to reshoot a take and picked up the gun to “mock shoot” them which he believed to be an unloaded prop and pulled the trigger, which shot the victims. Anti-gun activist indeed. Note the people shot weren’t actors, they had no reason being in the line of the shot. Even a prop gun that shoots blanks can potentially be lethal. Losing your cool and working your anger out on the people that work for you, it wouldn’t be the first time for Baldwin.

  Then there is the fact that the guns had already malfunctioned but the production being too cheap didn’t want to fix it, causing several people to already have walked off the set over safety concerns.

  All the mean time his buddies in the media are now spinning the story and blaming his prop master and I’ve even seen an article blaming “low budget” and COVID for the shooting. Because Baldwin and his bosses were too cheap ($6M is a huge budget imho, Baldwin taking a huge chunk of that) the government now needs to step in and give him more money so this doesn’t happen again.
  

  Not only that, but the union of movie set workers IATSE has been threatening to strike over poor working conditions, mask mandates and safety concerns for months, but big Hollywood and the media have both covered up that story while big studios tried to keep production going. Eventually union leaders bowed to Disney and co with some minor concession. Did you hear Baldwin’s Twitter complain at any point over the last few weeks that his staff was working in unsafe conditions? Any other big actor join in solidarity? Nope, they all took their lead from the studio and shut up about it.

  If you’re going to advocate for a specific thing, fine, but at least don’t be a dumbass about it.

  Isn't Canada Great, even close to a Spiritual Paradise?

  viewing those slides (in combination with the other things i have seen and heard about canada) made me feel that maybe canada is about as close as one can get in the western world to a nation which is now a spiritual paradise, much like a new peaceful order now.

  imagine that the usa would never have had a civil war.

  There’s only 300,000 immigrants annually to Canada, the median wage of them are lower than that of Canadians. So perhaps 30,000 of them are wealthy, distributed over the entirety of the country, it is highly unlikely that is the cause of homelessness, crime rates and other social ills currently befalling Canada.
